Dutch, US Intelligence Warn of China-Linked Cyber Threat
Dutch intelligence agencies have joined the United States in warning about a significant cyber threat. The China-linked APT group, known as Salt Typhoon, has been targeting global telecoms and other critical sectors. At least eight US telecommunications firms were compromised in this campaign.
The joint Cybersecurity Advisory, co-issued by Dutch intelligence agencies MIVD and AIVD with US and UK counterparts, provides details on tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) associated with these nation-state actors. The advisory links these malicious activities to multiple China-based entities providing services to China's Ministry of State Security and People's Liberation Army.
The Salt Typhoon attack, also known as RedMike, targeted the Netherlands, focusing on smaller internet service and hosting providers. Dutch authorities warn that advanced cyber operations require constant monitoring to reduce risks to national cyber resilience.
Dutch intelligence has confirmed parts of US findings, endorsing warnings from the NSA, CISA, and FBI. The United States attributes this large-scale Chinese cyberespionage campaign to state-backed group Salt Typhoon. The Netherlands and other nations are urged to remain vigilant and monitor their networks closely to protect against further intrusions.
