Dutch politician Alexander Pechtold to vacate position as chairman of the Dutch Lottery
The Dutch Lottery has commenced a search for a successor to Alexander Pechtold, who is set to step down from his role as Chairman on January 1, 2026. Pechtold's departure comes after more than four years in the position, during which he played a significant role in the development and growth of the company.
Pechtold expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Dutch Lottery, stating that he was leaving behind an organization ready for the future, with a clear positioning, an ambitious strategy, and enthusiastic and driven employees. He also praised the company's great brands, fantastic products, and colleagues who provide responsible gambling with great energy and passion.
Frida van den Maagdenberg, a member of the Supervisory Board, expressed regret at Pechtold's departure but acknowledged his significant contributions to the company's growth. Van den Maagdenberg praised Pechtold for his work as chairman, stating that the board appreciates his efforts over the past four years. The Dutch Lottery acknowledges Pechtold's contributions as well, crediting him with positioning the company as the most responsible gambling operator on the market.
Pechtold's departure is due to his appointment as Mayor of the municipality of Delft, which will take effect in September 2025. He will retain his role as chairman of the Dutch Lottery's Supervisory Board until January 2026 to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Under Pechtold's guidance, three new Supervisory Board members were recruited, and a CEO was appointed during his tenure as chairman. Pechtold also played a major role in the development of the Dutch Lottery's new governance structure.
The search for a successor to Pechtold's senior-level role will be initiated alongside the search for a new chairman. The new chairman will be tasked with leading the Dutch Lottery through the next phase of its growth, building on the foundation laid by Pechtold.
The Dutch Lottery's new chairman will take the reins at a time when the company is well-positioned for success. This positioning was achieved in the context of the launch of the Dutch online gambling market, and the company has positioned itself as a leader in responsible gambling.
The Dutch Lottery is eager to find a new chairman who can continue to drive the company's growth and success. The new chairman will inherit an organization with a strong brand, a dedicated team, and a clear strategic direction. The search for a new chairman is ongoing, and no successor has been named as of July 2025.
