Dubai Launches 'Employee to Entrepreneur' Programme Aiming for 30 Unicorns by 2030
Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) has launched an innovative initiative, the 'Employee to Entrepreneur Programme', to foster an entrepreneurial culture in Dubai. Aligning with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, the programme aims to create 30 unicorn companies by 2030, contributing to the UAE's knowledge-based economy. Led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the initiative supports the national campaign 'The Emirates: The Startup Capital of the World'.
The programme evaluates ideas based on economic feasibility, scalability, strategic relevance, and social impact. In its first edition, 57 innovative ideas were submitted, with 16 entrepreneurs selected to participate. The programme is structured in three phases: idea development, planning and model building, and launch and expansion. Participants gain access to DIEZ's infrastructure, licensing services, and strategic initiatives, as well as support from Oraseya Capital.
The first edition has attracted proposals across various sectors, including technology, mobility, healthcare, and design. Yousuf Behzad, Chief People & Strategic Transformation Officer at DIEZ, highlighted the initiative's aim to drive sustainable economic growth. Participants also gain access to DIEZ's accelerator, SANDBOX, and the Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus (Dtec) for scaling operations.
The 'Employee to Entrepreneur Programme' launched by DIEZ is set to transform Dubai's entrepreneurial landscape. By providing comprehensive support and resources, the programme aims to nurture innovative ideas and contribute to the UAE's economic growth. With its focus on scalability, strategic relevance, and social impact, the initiative is poised to create a new wave of successful startups in Dubai.
