Drivers without a valid G.S.O. will be automatically detected from November onwards
In a move aimed at enhancing road safety, Russia is set to implement an automatic detection system for drivers without a valid OСАГO policy starting November 1. According to reports by RIA Novosti, the system will be in place to ensure that every driver on the road has a valid insurance policy.
The implementation of this system is considered a simplest task for automated control and is being carried out by the Russian government. The system will work by utilising road cameras to automatically detect drivers without a policy. If an error occurs in the system, contesting the fine is extremely easy by providing a valid policy, as stated by auto lawyer Ekaterina Solovyova, who is the source of this information.
Ekaterina Solovyova also believes that the automatic detection of drivers without a policy is a compromise, but she considers it beneficial for insurance companies from an economic perspective. She further adds that part of the funds from fines for drivers without a policy may go to road funds, potentially benefiting drivers in the long run.
Meanwhile, there's an increasing trend of Russians reselling Chinese cars. Brands like Geely, Haval (Great Wall Motors), and Chery have dominated the Russian market in recent years, taking advantage of Western brands' exit and establishing a strong presence, especially during 2023-2024. This information about Russians reselling Chinese cars was not provided by Ekaterina Solovyova.
The automatic detection system is expected to pressure drivers to obtain a policy, thereby increasing the number of drivers with a valid OСАГO policy. This could potentially lead to a safer driving environment on Russian roads.
