Drilling rig blast occurs in Bavaria region
On the 14th of August at 1:05 PM, an unexpected event took place at a wastewater treatment plant in Upper Franconia, Germany. Workers reported hearing a loud bang from an eleven-meter deep drill hole at 11:52 AM.
The exact cause of the explosion remains unclear. Initial investigations suggest that a smaller object, possibly an old hand grenade, could be the culprit. However, the police have ruled out the possibility of a larger explosive device being involved, such as an aircraft bomb.
Fortunately, the explosion did not pose any danger to the local population. No larger evacuations were necessary, and the police have not reported any injuries from the explosion. As a precaution, a nearby cycle path was closed.
At present, the cause of the explosion during drilling at the wastewater treatment plant is not documented or available. Further information about the incident is expected to be released in due course.
