"Domestic-scale review of planned connections in the realm of RLNG"
The government of Pakistan has taken a significant step towards providing accessible and affordable energy to its citizens with the announcement of a new initiative to roll out RLNG (Re-Liquefied Natural Gas) domestic connections. This move, a priority of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is aimed at meeting the growing public demand for clean and affordable energy.
Friday saw Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik convene a meeting to discuss the roll-out plan for RLNG connections to domestic users. The meeting was attended by key figures including the Secretary Petroleum, Additional Secretary, Director General Gas, representatives of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), and the Managing Directors of both Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).
The initiative, a significant milestone in the government's efforts, aims to streamline the application process for maximum public facilitation and transparency. Consumers will be able to apply online through the official websites and mobile applications of the Sui companies, as well as at their local offices.
Applicants who have already paid for a demand note can now submit the differential amount along with the security fee to become eligible for an RLNG connection under this new initiative. RLNG, it was noted, is a safer fuel option for domestic use, and shifting to RLNG offers energy efficiency and significant economic relief to households, as it is approximately 30% cheaper than LPG.
In a bid to ensure the seamless facilitation of the public, Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik directed the management of both gas utilities to formulate a robust and consumer-friendly mechanism. A dedicated Project Management Office (PMO) has been directed to be created at both SNGPL and SSGCL to oversee and ensure timely execution of the project.
The PMOs will monitor the entire process, from application to connection, and address any public grievances promptly. The ambitious target of providing new RLNG domestic connections within the first year was also set.
A media campaign to highlight this initiative was also discussed during the meeting. The shift to RLNG is expected to bring about a positive change in the energy landscape of Pakistan, providing a cleaner, safer, and more affordable energy solution to its citizens.
