Delta Air Lines Sued Over Serious Injuries From Flight Attendant's Beverage Cart Pushing

Delta Air Lines faces a lawsuit from Christopher Harris, who alleges serious injuries after a flight attendant pushed a beverage cart into his leg. This incident, which occurred on a flight from Detroit to Phoenix in November 2022, has raised concerns about the airline's safety protocols.

Harris was sleeping with his legs extended into the aisle when the cart struck his right leg. Medical investigations revealed 'broad-based disc protrusions with bilateral foraminal narrowing and nerve impingement', causing him pain, swelling, and numbness. His orthopedic surgeon advised that surgery would not improve his condition, leading him to require a wheelchair upon landing due to severe pain.

This is not an isolated incident. In August 2022, Gail Hamilton alleged a 'serious' shoulder injury after a Delta flight attendant pushed a loaded beverage cart into her. Similarly, in June 2023, Gerald Goldstein claimed serious injuries when a Delta flight attendant pushed a heavy beverage cart into his knee. Harris' lawsuit accuses Delta of negligence, claiming the flight attendant pulled the cart with her back to passengers and without maintaining a clear line of sight.

Delta Air Lines has been sued multiple times in the past year for similar incidents involving beverage carts causing serious passenger injuries. While there are no specific publicly available regulations from U.S. airport authorities regarding Delta's requirements for the security of beverage carts, these incidents highlight the need for the airline to review and strengthen its safety protocols to prevent such occurrences in the future.
