Delta-Aeroméxico alliance's predicted economic impact dismissed by Sheinbaum
Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has responded to the United States' decision to end the Delta-Aeromexico alliance, addressing concerns about the move of cargo flights to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).
In a planned letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Sheinbaum Pardo asserts that the decision was not arbitrary, but rather a necessary measure due to saturation at Mexico City International Airport. The mayor also dismissed any potential economic impact, asserting that there will not be a significant economic impact due to the ending of the alliance.
The move to AIFA is not only a response to airport congestion, but also offers several benefits, according to Sheinbaum Pardo. These include increased security, faster processing times, and more efficient civil protection measures. The mayor also mentioned that she has spoken with companies that might have had issues at AIFA to help address any concerns.
Aeromexico, one of the airlines with the most foreign capital, remains a competitive airline, according to Sheinbaum Pardo. The airline, which has Mexican management, competes with other Mexican airlines.
U.S. cargo companies at AIFA have expressed their contentment with the move, according to Sheinbaum Pardo. The existence of AIFA was a factor in the decision to move cargo flights, as the airport offers improved infrastructure and facilities to handle the increased volume of cargo.
The reason behind the U.S. decision to end the Delta-Aeromexico alliance is not yet clear at this time. However, the mayor has not expressed any concerns about the impact on Aeromexico, maintaining that the airline will continue to be a strong competitor in the industry.
In a separate matter, the military commander in Tabasco lost his position due to a breach of protocol or confidentiality, after revealing an arrest warrant against Hernán Bermúdez. Despite this, Sheinbaum Pardo stated that all U.S. companies at AIFA are satisfied with the move, ensuring a smooth transition for cargo operations.
