Thailand to Lower Electricity Prices for Final Quarter of 2025

Good news is on the horizon for Thai consumers, as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, has announced a decrease in electricity prices for the final period of 2025 (September-December).

The reduction in electricity prices is largely due to the falling price of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the global market. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has set aside funds for additional discounts to further lower the costs for consumers.

EGAT plans to reduce the electricity rate to about 3.95 baht per unit, slightly lower than the 3.98 baht per unit charged during May-August 2025. This reduction aims to ease the financial burden on consumers, as confirmed by Pirapan.

The Cabinet had previously set an electricity price cap of 3.99 baht per unit, which was effectively met in the prior period, enabling further cost-saving measures for the last quarter of 2025. EGAT will notify the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), which will finalize the rates.

Pirapan believes the public will receive good news soon regarding the electricity prices. The discussions were held with the goal of easing the financial burden on Thai households, and the plan to reduce electricity prices has been agreed upon with EGAT.

It is important to note that the specific electricity rates for the final period of 2025 have not been disclosed yet. However, the lower electricity rates are not expected to affect the reliability or quality of electricity supply.

This reduction in electricity prices is part of the government's efforts to address the impact of rising costs on consumers. While electricity prices in other regions like the U.S. have shown a year-over-year increase, Thailand's electricity market is expected to benefit from the lower prices in the final quarter of 2025.

The decrease in electricity prices for the final quarter of 2025, as announced by Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, is a result of the falling price of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the global market and the additional discounts set aside by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). Additionally, this reduction in electricity rates is part of the government's efforts to address the impact of rising costs on consumers, and the lower prices are not expected to affect the reliability or quality of electricity supply.
