Sharjah Ruler Takes Active Role in Supporting Families

In the emirate of Sharjah, His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Sharjah Ruler, is making a significant impact on the lives of citizens and residents.

Sheikh Dr Sultan has taken personal responsibility for those struggling, particularly in cases of non-payment of child expenses by separated fathers. He has intervened directly to support those genuinely unable to pay, and has instructed judges to carefully verify fathers' financial incapacity before taking any action.

In a bid to avoid harsh enforcement measures that could worsen the situation, Sheikh Sultan has directed judges to rule with both strict adherence to law and compassion. This approach emphasizes thorough case study before decisions, and substitutes terms like "compulsory enforcement" with less severe language in child support cases.

The Sharjah Ruler has also empowered judicial authorities to give divorced fathers wider visitation rights on a case-by-case basis, reflecting a child-centered and humane approach to family justice. This allows fathers to take children outside designated centers if no abuse history exists.

To further support family stability, Sheikh Sultan has overseen the establishment of the "Sharjah Family Development" institution, chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. This institution aims to strengthen family bonds, promote social cohesion, and address family-related social challenges through legislative proposals and social support programs.

In addition to these initiatives, Sheikh Dr Sultan has approved government roles for 700 job seekers who had not previously worked, increased Decent Living grants to a monthly income of Dh17,500 for some citizens, and approved the allocation of 690 land plots for citizens in Khor Fakkan. He has also stepped in to help individuals secure jobs and taken on the costs for a resident's disabled son's education and treatment.

Nasreen Abdulla, a Special Correspondent covering food, tech, and human interest stories, and Azza Al Ali, a reporter from Ras Al Khaimah focusing on community stories, are among those who have reported on Sheikh Sultan's efforts to ease the lives of citizens and residents in Sharjah.

In 2021, Sheikh Sultan prevented a bank from auctioning off a citizen's home due to housing loan issues, demonstrating his commitment to protecting the well-being of his people.

The Sharjah Ruler's approach involves personal responsibility for fathers who cannot pay child support, judicial reform to ensure justice with humanity, expanded fathers' rights regarding visitation, and proactive family social development to uphold family welfare and happiness. His actions reflect a deep understanding of the challenges faced by his people and a commitment to addressing them with compassion and practical solutions.
