DB Plans Modernization of Langwedel - Soltau - Uelzen Line for Safer, Faster Travel

Deutsche Bahn (DB) has announced plans to modernize the Langwedel - Soltau - Uelzen railway line, aiming to increase traffic and enhance quality of life. The project, DB-Infra-Go, will retain most level crossings and improve safety, despite not installing barriers due to speed limits.

The modernization, scheduled to commence in the mid-2030s, includes electrification, overtaking opportunities, and speed increases to 160 km/h. Despite the higher speeds, level crossings won't be made barrier-free, as trains won't exceed 160 km/h. Most level crossings will be upgraded with digital signal boxes and ETCS Level 2, enhancing safety and efficiency.

Initially, barrier closure times may decrease, but total waiting times could rise due to more trains. Along the route, all level crossings will be retained, except for a small one in Soltau. DB aims to balance traffic growth with quality of life improvements, particularly at level crossings.

The Amerikalinie expansion, led by Deutsche Bahn, seeks to boost passenger and freight traffic by 2030. The DB-Infra-Go project, set to start in the mid-2030s, will modernize the Langwedel - Soltau - Uelzen line, enhancing safety and efficiency without installing barriers at level crossings. Detailed information on the project is available on the DB-Infra-Go website.
