Darwin Airline Accuses Swiss of Unfair Competition, Files COMCO Complaint
Delta Airline has accused Swiss International Air Lines of unfair competition and anti-competitive behaviour, aiming to push them out of the Swiss market. The regional airline, which serves 28 destinations in Europe, has filed a complaint with Switzerland's Competition Commission (COMCO).
Delta Airline's CEO, Maurizio Merlo, believes Swiss' actions are predatory. Swiss cancelled an agreement to accommodate passengers in case of flight disruptions, and launched new competing routes. Delta Airline also alleges that Swiss terminated a wet lease agreement without valid reason, replacing aircraft with larger ones from Tyrolean Airways. Additionally, Delta Airline claims Swiss terminated an interline agreement, increasing burden on connecting passengers.
These actions, according to Delta Airline, followed Etihad Airways' planned acquisition of a 33.3% stake in Swiss. Delta Airline serves nearly 500,000 passengers annually with a fleet of 12 aircraft, and Merlo believes Swiss' actions deserve investigation by the Swiss Competition Authority.
