Dalmas Otieno, Kenyan Politician and Pan-Africanist, Dies at 75
Dalmas Otieno, a prominent Kenyan politico and pan-Africanist, has passed away. Known for his humility and development focus, Otieno served under three presidents and played pivotal roles in key political events.
Otieno's political journey spanned decades. He began as a Member of Parliament for Rongo and a stalwart of KANU. His influence grew as he co-chaired the CORD summit before the 2013 elections and the IPPG that drove electoral reforms ahead of the 1997 polls.
Otieno's intellectual prowess was evident in his role at the Bomas Constitutional Conference. He was instrumental in rejecting the 2005 Wako Draft as part of ODM. His commitment to development was reflected in his ministerial roles, including Industrialisation, Transport, and Communication. In his later years, he served as the Vice Chairperson of the SRC during its second term.
Otieno was a brilliant student at Makerere University, reflecting his academic acumen. He was described as a humble man who always sought solutions, earning him respect across the political spectrum.
Otieno is survived by three wives, Patricia and Dorothy, and 14 children. His contributions to Kenyan politics and development will be remembered. He served under former Presidents Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta, leaving a lasting impact on the country's political landscape.
