Customs Raid in Erfurt Finds 54 Minimum Wage Irregularities
Customs officials in Erfurt recently conducted a thorough inspection to ensure compliance with federal minimum wage laws in Thuringia and South Saxony. The operation, held on March 13, 2025, uncovered 54 potential irregularities, leading to 10 criminal proceedings and 7 administrative fines.
The Main Customs Office Erfurt, led by an unnamed official, deployed 114 officers for the focus check. They interviewed 407 employees from various sectors, scrutinising employment relationships, social security registrations, work permits, and federal minimum wage payments.
The inspection revealed that many workers were not receiving the statutory federal minimum wage. In Germany, this stands at 12.82 euros gross per hour, with industry-specific rates also applicable. The findings highlight the need for stricter enforcement to protect workers' rights and ensure fair competition.
The nationwide focus check in Erfurt uncovered significant non-compliance with federal minimum wage laws. With 54 potential irregularities, 10 criminal proceedings, and 7 administrative fines, the operation underscores the importance of regular inspections to maintain labour standards and protect workers.
