It also stands as the deadliest accident involving an ATR 72.

Yeti Airlines Flight 691 - ATR72-500

The plane in question was a 15-year-old twin-engine turboprop ATR 72-500, with serial number 754 and registration 9N-ANC. Reports suggest that the plane was facing technical difficulties before the crash. A spokesperson from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal commented, "Weather was clear, and according to preliminary information, the cause of the crash is the technical issue with the plane."

The rugged terrain and poor weather conditions hampered the immediate deployment of search and rescue teams to the crash site. Retrieving the bodies of the victims was a formidable task. On the 16th of January, both the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder were located and found to be in good condition. Their content would be analyzed in Nepal (voice recorder) and in France (data recorder).

The investigation into the cause of the crash is currently being carried out by the Nepalese Civil Aviation Authority. The families of the victims received condolences and support from both the airline and the government shortly after the tragedy.
