Falling Fruit and Vegetable Prices in Russia: Weekly Declines in Early August

Good news for consumers in Russia as fruit and vegetable prices continue to fall, according to the latest data from August 2025.

In the week of August 5 to 11, fruit and vegetable prices dropped by 4.11%, following a 4.6% decline in the previous week (July 29 to August 4). This downward trend has been observed for several key items.

Potatoes saw the steepest decrease, falling by approximately 10.8%, while white cabbage, table beets, carrots, onions, tomatoes, bananas, and even apples experienced reductions of between 2.5% and 9.7%. Interestingly, cucumbers bucked the trend, with a minor increase of 0.3% [1][3][4].

July's figures showed a mixed picture, with some fruits and vegetables decreasing in price, while others rose. For instance, table beets, white cabbage, potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and bananas dropped by 6.4% to 26.1%, but apples (+3.8%), oranges (+3.1%), and lemons (+0.9%) saw price increases [2].

This week-over-week deflation in early August was a significant factor in the overall decline in consumer food prices, with other food and non-food categories changing little or increasing marginally [1][3][4].

Looking ahead, forecasts predict that by the end of 2025, the growth of prices will slow down to 6-7%. The Central Bank expects inflation to decrease to 8.5% by the end of the third quarter [6].

However, not all prices are falling. Some medications and certain goods, such as housing rent in state and municipal housing, have seen increases. Fares for trolleybus travel have also risen by 1.1%, while bus and tram fares have increased by 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively [7].

| Item | Weekly Price Change (%) | |----------------|----------------------------| | Potatoes | -10.8 | | White cabbage | -9.7 | | Table beets | -9.6 | | Carrots | -8.4 | | Onions | -6.3 | | Tomatoes | -6.0 | | Bananas | -2.5 | | Apples | -0.4 | | Cucumbers | +0.3 | | Overall Fruits & Vegetables | -4.1% to -4.6% |

These figures reflect the deflationary trends in early August 2025 in Russia's fruit and vegetable market [1][3][4].

  1. The drastic decrease in potato prices, amounting to 10.8%, and the similar reductions in other vegetables such as white cabbage, table beets, carrots, onions, tomatoes, bananas, and even apples, are contributing factors to the recent decline in the overall finance of consumers in Russia.
  2. As the Central Bank predicts, the growth of prices may slow down to 6-7% by the end of 2025, suggesting a potential stabilization in the finance sector, given the current deflationary trends in Russia's fruit and vegetable market.
