Construction on Dubai's Blue Line Metro leads to traffic detours at Academic City
In Dubai, construction works on the highly anticipated Dubai Metro Blue Line have commenced, causing traffic diversions in Academic City. The new line, set to open on September 9, 2029, marks the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro's initial launch and is a significant expansion of the city's public transportation system.
The Dubai Metro Blue Line will span 30 kilometres and include 14 new stations, significantly expanding the reach of the Dubai Metro. Upon completion, the entire Dubai Metro network will cover 131 kilometres with a total of 78 stations, enhancing connectivity across the city.
The line will deploy 28 state-of-the-art trains, capable of handling up to 46,000 passengers per hour in each direction. Daily ridership is expected to reach 200,000 by 2030 and grow to 320,000 by 2040, as new communities develop around the line.

The RTA has previously warned of traffic diversions in Mirdif for the same reason and advised drivers to use alternative routes and plan their trips in advance. The 63 Street in front of the German Internartial School will be closed in both directions as part of the Dubai Metro Blue Line construction works.
