Connecting Link between Lahn-Feld-Tri functioning with Wettenberg junction points
The road surface renovation of Federal Highway 429 between Lahnfeld Triangle and Wettenberg Interchange (west of Gießen Ring) will commence this summer, as announced by Hessen Mobil. The renovation, which is set to cost approximately 10.123 million euros, will be funded by the Federal Republic of Germany.
Preparations for the renovation will begin in mid-June, and traffic will be able to continue in a 2+0 traffic management system towards Wetzlar. During the construction period, Hessen Mobil kindly asks all road users for their understanding of the necessary restrictions and is committed to keeping the inconveniences caused by the construction site as low as possible.
The renovated road will feature two lanes plus side strips in each direction, similar to an autobahn. To allow traffic participants to switch to the other half of the road, several median crossovers will be installed. The roadway resurfacing in the direction of Giessen/Wetzlar will begin this week.
In addition to the road surface renovation, the project will include a comprehensive renewal of the road surface in both directions, reinforcement of the frost protection layer beneath the asphalt, and renewal of guardrails along the edge of the road. The existing traffic light system at the Wettenberg interchange will be replaced with a temporary system during the works.
Occasionally, the parallel bicycle and pedestrian path in the direction of Giessen may need to be temporarily closed during the works. A portion of the median at the Wettenberg interchange will need to be rebuilt.
Traffic is currently being rerouted onto one lane per direction in a 2+0 traffic management scheme around the construction site. Side strips will be widened and embankments secured to ensure the road is wide enough.
It is worth noting that in August 2024, Hessen Mobil began a basic roadway renovation on Federal Highway 429 between Lahnfeld intersection and junction Wettenberg, which required a single night-time closure of the B 429 in both directions.
The roadway resurfacing of Federal Highway 429 between Lahnfeld Triangle and Wettenberg, which began in August 2024, is currently ongoing in the direction of Wettenberg. The closure is weather-dependent and will only take place if roadway markings have been applied beforehand.
A full overnight closure of Federal Highway 429 from Lahnfeld Triangle to Wettenberg Interchange is scheduled from Thursday, January 9 to Friday, January 10. Detours will be signposted in all directions during the closure.
