Collaborative Efforts of Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi Alliance Advance as They Executed Joint Projects at Ampere Douai Plant
The Douai plant in France, known for its automotive manufacturing prowess, is set to unveil a news chapter in its history with the addition of Mitsubishi Motors as a client. On September 17, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, the brand's first full-electric SUV for Europe, will be revealed, marking the first Mitsubishi vehicle produced in France.
This expansion comes as part of the Alliance's commitment to delivering electric vehicles tailored to European customers. Besides Renault and Alpine, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan are also customers of the plant, with electric vehicle production commencing in 2023.
Nissan is producing the Micra EV (2025) at the Douai plant, while Alpine is manufacturing the A290 (2024). Renault, on the other hand, is producing the 100% electric Megane E-Tech (2022), Scenic E-Tech Electric (2024), and the R5 E-Tech Electric (2024) at the same site.
The production line at the Douai plant manufactures six electric models for four clients: Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi Motors, and Alpine. A new workshop for assembling batteries has been added to the plant, further enhancing its capabilities.
In May 2023, the Douai plant's production went 100% electric, and it has since demonstrated its capability to manufacture six electric vehicles across four distinct brands. This showcases a high degree of flexibility and brand-specific customization.
The plant has invested €550 million to build a new flexible standard line for electric vehicles, equipped with two modular platforms, Ampr Small (segment A / B) and Ampr Medium (segment C). As a result, the plant now produces four brands: Renault, Alpine, Nissan, and Mitsubishi.
The recent visit of Ivan Espinosa, CEO of Nissan, and Takao Kato, CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, to Douai, France on September 16, 2025, marked a significant milestone. The meeting was the inaugural Alliance Board for Francois Provost, the newly appointed CEO of Renault Group.
In May, Nissan unveiled the all-new Nissan Micra, an iconic nameplate designed for European customers. The all-new Nissan Micra and the next-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross are currently being prepared at the Douai plant for commercial launches in late 2025.
The Douai plant produced 50,729 vehicles in 2023 and is expected to produce 89,527 vehicles in 2024, reflecting the growing demand for electric vehicles in Europe. With Mitsubishi joining the Alliance, the Douai plant is poised to continue its role as a key player in the electric vehicle revolution.
