Climate and Environmental Protection Prize 2023 presented in Offenbach: Recognition for the dedication to environmental preservation
In a remarkable achievement, Offenbach's Local Agenda 21 and Vocational-Technical Schools have been awarded the Climate and Environmental Protection Prize 2023. The Local Agenda 21's winning project, titled "Future-proof Data Centers, Balcony Power Plants & Engagement for Sustainability," has been recognised in the category "Climate Protection and Climate Adaptation." Meanwhile, the Vocational-Technical Schools' project, known as "Trash to Treasure," has been honoured in the category "Environmental Protection: Nature, Water, Soil."
The Local Agenda 21's project aims to develop guidelines for environmentally friendly data centers in Offenbach, collaborating with BUND (Federal Association for Nature Conservation) to publish a position paper on the subject. In addition, the Local Agenda 21 provides information materials for the use of balcony power plants and advocates for their practical use.
The Vocational-Technical Schools, on the other hand, recycle waste from 3D printing and collected plastic bottle caps for their "Trash to Treasure" project. From the recycled materials, they create everyday objects such as furniture, kitchen utensils, or toys.
Mayor and Climate Commissioner Sabine Groß praised the long-standing commitment of the Local Agenda 21. She expressed her gratitude for their efforts in promoting sustainability and climate protection in Offenbach.
Renowned architect and curator Peter Cachola Schmal gave a lecture on climate change at the Climate and Environmental Protection Prize 2023 award ceremony. In his talk, titled "Climate Change: What Can Everyone Do," he provided insights on how property owners and city dwellers can counteract climate change through measures like facade greening and urban green space design.
