China's NEV Sales Surge 36.7% in First Eight Months of 2025
China's new energy vehicle (NEV) market has witnessed remarkable growth in the first eight months of 2025. Total NEV sales reached 9.62 million, a 36.7% increase year-on-year. This surge in demand has propelled China to maintain its dominance in the global electric vehicle sector.
Domestic sales of NEVs accounted for the lion's share of this growth, with 8.088 million units sold within China. Exports also saw a significant boost, nearly doubling to 1.532 million units. This increase in exports reflects the growing global demand for Chinese-made electric vehicles.
The overall automotive market in China also experienced robust growth, with total sales crossing 21.1 million units, a 12.6% increase year-on-year. This growth is largely driven by the NEV sector, which has seen a surge in sales, particularly in August 2025. China sold 1.395 million NEVs in August alone, a 26.8% increase from the previous year. The production of NEVs also rose in August, reaching 1.391 million units, up 27.4% year-on-year.
The impressive growth in China's NEV market underscores the country's commitment to sustainable transportation. As the global leader in electric vehicle production and sales, China is well-positioned to shape the future of the automotive industry.
