China's Major Mineral Discoveries Boost New Energy Industry
China has made significant mineral discoveries in recent times. The country has unearthed a substantial lithium deposit in Sichuan and another in Hunan, along with vast copper reserves in Tibet. These findings are set to bolster China's strategic resources for its new energy industry.
The initial discovery in Sichuan revealed a lithium deposit of nearly a million tons. However, the find in Hunan is particularly notable for its ease of extraction and management, making it a strategic asset for the new energy industry in Chenzhou.
The Hunan deposit contains not only lithium but also additional resources such as rubidium, tungsten, and tin. Preliminary estimates suggest it holds 490 million tons of lithium mineral, including 1.31 million tons of lithium oxide. This discovery was made by the Hunan Provincial Mineral Resources Prospecting Institute.
In Tibet, China has discovered a gold deposit with preliminary reserves of 1,000 tons, valued at an astonishing $83 billion. Moreover, the country has found 20 million tons of copper in the region, with potential reserves exceeding 150 million tons. These discoveries could transform the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau into a major global copper supplier.
These mineral discoveries in China are set to provide strategic resource security for the country's new energy industry. The lithium deposits in Sichuan and Hunan, along with the copper reserves in Tibet, are expected to play a significant role in China's future energy landscape.
