Insurance Industry News: Key Appointments and Moves
In the dynamic world of insurance, several notable changes have taken place recently. Here's a roundup of some of the recent appointments and moves that have caught our attention.
Matthew Budd at Hiscox
Matthew Budd, with his extensive 36-year career in claims, has been appointed to the newly created role of Group Head of Technical Claims at Hiscox. Based in London, he will report to Steve Parry, Group Claims Director. Budd joins Hiscox from AIG where he led aerospace claims. His previous roles include Head of Claims and Head of Wordings and Contracts at Talbot Underwriting, and Aviation Claims Manager at XL London Market. In his new role, Budd will oversee technical claims operations to support growth and innovation in claims handling.
Abhishek Chhajer at Bridge Specialty International (BSI)
Abhishek Chhajer has been appointed as Chief Executive at Acorn International Network Pte, a subsidiary of Bridge Specialty International (BSI). With 25 years of experience in banking and insurance, Chhajer will lead the growth and development of BSI business across the Asia region.
Josh Cowen and Acquinex
While details about Josh Cowen's move or appointment at Acquinex are currently unavailable, it is known that Acquinex has strengthened its leadership team with key appointments, including Josh Cowen as CEO.
Alex Stratton-Thomsett at Blenheim Underwriting
Alex Stratton-Thomsett, with 25 years of experience and expertise in the casualty market, has joined Blenheim Underwriting as a casualty underwriter, effective from 8 January, 2026. The appointment of Stratton-Thomsett is another endorsement of Blenheim Underwriting's independent structure and marks a reunion with top-tier underwriting talent that can sometimes get lost in larger organizations. Stratton-Thomsett previously worked at MS Amlin.
David Barber, senior casualty underwriter, stated that the appointment of Stratton-Thomsett is a significant step forward in the expansion of their casualty MGA book. In his new role, Stratton-Thomsett will join David Barber in the build out of the MGA casualty account.
