Celebrating a Year of Progress: eID.li Transforms Digital Identity into Reality

In the heart of Europe, the Principality of Liechtenstein has embarked on a digital journey with the launch of its innovative digital identity solution, eID.li, over a year ago. This digital identity platform, developed by youniqx Identity AG, has seamlessly integrated the EU Digital COVID Certificate and is set to complete its roll-out by July 1.

The technical foundation of eID.li is the "MIA" platform, an independent development by youniqx Identity AG. This versatile platform supports various use cases, such as digital ID cards or electronic health certificates, and work is underway to expand eID.li to offer citizens more functions.

Liechtenstein's involvement in broader European digital and trade initiatives, such as its part in the EFTA trade agreement implementation expected by October 2025, may influence digital identity frameworks in the region. This, coupled with the country's support for innovative projects, creates a promising landscape for eID.li's future enhancements.

Technological advancements from providers like Infineon Technologies AG, a prominent provider of government ID solutions, could also potentially be relevant for future eID projects in Liechtenstein. Infineon's recent expansion of its product portfolio includes new eID-related technologies like SECORA™ ID V2 and eID-OS, focusing on enhanced security, flexibility, faster time-to-market, and reduced costs for electronic ID projects.

Users of eID.li can authenticate easily and securely via their smartphone or computer. Over 12,000 Liechtenstein citizens have activated their personal eID.li since its free app's launch for iOS and Android, with around one third of all citizens using public authority services digitally.

Close cooperation was established with Nok Nok Labs, a market leader in secure authentication, to ensure the highest security for all sensitive personal data on eID.li. This collaboration underscores the platform's commitment to maintaining the utmost security for its users.

youniqx Identity AG, an in-house OSD digital subsidiary, developed "eID.li" and has established itself as an international pioneer for secure eID solutions. The company has also implemented the digital driving license in Kosovo based on the MIA platform.

For detailed and official information on eID.li’s expansion plans and functionalities, monitoring announcements from Liechtenstein’s government or the responsible digital identity authority would be necessary. The official eID.li website provides more information about this groundbreaking digital identity solution.

The integration of eID.li's technology with emerging solutions from providers like Infineon Technologies AG could lead to advanced security features and cost-effectiveness in future business applications, particularly in the finance and lifestyle sectors. Liechtenstein's involvement in digital and trade initiatives, such as the EFTA agreement, may also influence the expansion of eID.li to offer citizens more business and technology-related services, enhancing its potential in the digital identity landscape.
