In a strategic move to align its fleet size with current market conditions and improve operational efficiency, AS Tallink Grupp, a leading operator in the Baltic Sea region, has sold the cargo/passenger vessel Regal Star to Ams Line Shipping Co., a Turkish company. The handover took place on August 6, 2025 [1][2][3].

The Regal Star, previously operated by Tallinn-Helsinki Line Limited, had been serving mainly as a cargo vessel on the Paldiski–Kapellskär route. Occasionally, it also transported car passengers. With its sale, Tallink aims to optimise routes and fleet utilisation under the present market conditions [1][2][3].

Paavo Nõgene, the CEO of AS Tallink Grupp, has stated that these changes, including the sale of Regal Star, will not significantly impact the company’s financial results for 2025. This decision supports Tallink’s efforts to align the size of its operational fleet with current market conditions [1][2][3].

Following the sale of the passenger vessel Star I in April, Tallink adjusted operations on the Paldiski–Kapellskär route by reinstating the Superfast IX, which returned from a long-term charter in Canada. The Superfast IX will now operate on this route instead of Regal Star [1][2][3].

Meanwhile, the passenger vessels Silja Europa and Galaxy I remain away from Estonia under long-term charter agreements. Additionally, the cruise ferry Romantika started a new charter service in Algeria in May [1][2][3].

Tallink continues to operate a modern mixed-use fleet with a wide route network across the Baltic Sea region. The company maintains strong safety and environmental standards alongside its hotel business units [1][3][4]. These fleet adjustments and route optimisations reflect Tallink’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency without causing substantial disruptions or financial detriment.

In the aftermath of the sale of Regal Star, Tallink seeks to invest in transportation solutions that align with the current industry trends, driving the reallocation of assets within the automotive sector. The financial implications of this decision, as confirmed by Paavo Nõgene, will not cause a substantial impact on the company's overall performance in 2025, ensuring continued growth and optimised routes amidst fluctuating market conditions.
