California OKs 15% Ethanol Fuel, Promising Cheaper Gas
California has become the last state to raise its cap on ethanol fuel blending, Governor Gavin Newsom signed bill AB 30 on September 23, 2022, allowing gasoline suppliers to sell fuels containing up to 15 percent ethanol immediately. This move is expected to make fuel cheaper for consumers.
The new law, which will be reviewed by local air quality management districts starting January 1, 2026, allows California to join the majority of other states that have already increased their ethanol content limits. This change is set to bring down fuel prices, as higher-ethanol fuel is approximately 25 cents cheaper per gallon than traditional gasoline with 10 percent or less ethanol.
Gas stations across the state can now start selling the new fuel blend, giving consumers more affordable options at the pump.
With the signing of AB 30, California has opened the door to cheaper fuel options for its residents. The new law allows for higher-ethanol fuel, which is 25 cents cheaper per gallon than traditional gasoline. This change is a significant step towards providing more affordable fuel choices for California drivers.
