Electric Vehicle Maker BYD Introduces Dolphin Mini in El Salvador

BYD, the Chinese automotive company with ticker symbols HKG: 1211 and OTCMKTS: BYDDY, has made its entry into the passenger vehicle market in El Salvador with the launch of the Dolphin Mini. Previously known as the Seagull, the electric hatchback has been renamed Dolphin Mini in El Salvador primarily for the local market launch, with a starting price of $22,400.

The Dolphin Mini is a compact electric vehicle that offers a range of up to 380 kilometers. The launch of the Dolphin Mini was a joint venture between BYD and its partner Energy Motors, marking its entry into the El Salvador automotive market.

Alongside the Dolphin Mini, BYD currently offers six models in El Salvador:

  • BYD Dolphin Mini (Seagull)
  • BYD Seal
  • BYD Yuan Pro
  • BYD Song Plus
  • BYD Song Pro
  • BYD Shark

These models cover a range of electric vehicles including compact hatchbacks and larger SUVs, providing consumers in El Salvador with multiple options in BYD’s electric vehicle lineup.

BYD entered the El Salvador market in January this year. The launch of the Dolphin Mini was announced in a statement on Friday. The location of the launch was Central America.

The Dolphin Mini's renaming likely reflects a marketing decision to better resonate with consumers in El Salvador or align with regional branding strategies. The Seagull's transformation into the Dolphin Mini is a testament to BYD's commitment to expanding its electric vehicle offerings and making sustainable transportation accessible to more people.
