Bus collision investigation concluded on A9, resulting in criminal charges being filed as of March 27, 2024
In a somber courtroom, the Eilenburg Local Court is currently hearing the case surrounding the tragic traffic accident that occurred on the A9 federal highway on March 27, 2024, approximately three kilometers before the Schkeuditzer Kreuz.
The accident, which involved a FlixBus travel bus en route from Berlin to Zurich, resulted in the unfortunate deaths of four women: a 19-year-old German, a 20-year-old Indonesian, a 43-year-old Ukrainian, and a 47-year-old Polish woman. Forty-six passengers were also injured, some severely.
Subsequent investigations focused on the bus driver, a 62-year-old Czech man, who was at the wheel at the time of the accident. The driver, who has no prior convictions, is charged with negligent homicide in four cases and negligent bodily harm in 46 cases.
Investigations revealed no evidence that the driver's fitness to drive was impaired by alcohol, drugs, or medication. Additionally, there were no technical defects with the bus at the time of the accident.
The bus veered off the road and tipped over onto its side, reaching a speed of approximately 94 km/h at the time of the incident.
The court will decide on whether to open the main proceedings and accept the indictment. Further details of the investigation will be discussed during the trial.
