Bonify Data Breach: ID Documents and Videos Compromised

Schufa's subsidiary, Forteil, has reported a data breach affecting its digital service, Bonify. Unknown attackers accessed identification data of Bonify users, potentially compromising sensitive information. While passwords and financial data remain secure, the incident has raised concerns about data protection and user privacy.

Bonify, in collaboration with authorities and experts, is currently investigating the incident. They have informed affected users via email and published updates on their website. The breach likely impacts the video identification process handled by ID Now, a third-party service provider. However, the exact location and nature of the attack remain unclear.

The compromised data includes ID documents, address data, and photo and video recordings from the 'face-to-face' identification process. The number of affected users and the duration of the compromise are still unknown. Bonify has assured users that passwords, access data, Schufa information, credit data, and payment or account information were not affected.

In response to the breach, Bonify is offering its identity protection service for free to affected users for six months. This service will monitor personal data and provide warnings of any potential identity misuse. The company is also working to clarify the attack and mitigate any further risks.

The Bonify data breach is a serious concern, with potential financial and reputational implications for both Bonify and its parent company, Schufa Holding. While the full extent of the breach is still under investigation, users are advised to remain vigilant and take advantage of the free identity protection service offered by Bonify. The company continues to cooperate with authorities to clarify the attack and ensure the security of its users' data.
