BMW will display five art cars at the 2025 Goodwood Revival event.

The Art Car World Tour, featuring BMW's unique partnership with renowned artists, is currently underway. This global tour commenced simultaneously in Europe and Asia, showcasing the 19th addition to the Art Car series, Julie Mehretu's BMW M Hybrid V8.

The Art Car series, initiated by Alexander Calder's BMW 3.0 CSL in 1975, now consists of 19 unique rolling sculptures. Each artist invited to create an Art Car was given complete freedom by BMW to express their vision. This year, the series celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 3 Series, originally introduced in 1975.

One of the highlights of the European tour is the Goodwood Revival, where several Art Cars will be on display from September 12 to 14. Roy Lichtenstein's 320i Turbo, based on the E21 platform, and Frank Stella's 3.0 CSL from 1976, the second official Art Car, will be part of this exhibition. The Goodwood Revival is also set to feature David Hockney's 1995 850 CSi, with the outline of a driver sketched onto the door, which is the 14th entry in the Art Car series. Ernst Fuchs's 635 CSi, the fifth Art Car in the series and the first based on a street car, is also scheduled to appear.

Another eagerly anticipated Art Car is Andy Warhol's 1979 M1. The Asian tour of the Art Car World Tour commenced around the same time as the European tour, with Julie Mehretu's M Hybrid V8. The tour will extend well into next year, with stops in Vienna, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Dubai, Shanghai, Zurich, Taipei, Stockholm, Bratislava, Cernobbio, Munich, Båstad, The Hague, Istanbul, and additional locations.

BMW plans to celebrate 50 years of the Art Car program in 2025, but the tour will continue beyond that year. Contemporary Istanbul will host the Art Car World Tour between September 24 and 28, alongside Calder's CSL. However, the identity of the next artist creating a BMW Art Car to be exhibited at Contemporary Istanbul has not been explicitly named in the available search results.

The latest entry in the Art Car series, to be displayed in 2024, will also be part of this exciting global journey. The vibrant 2010 M3 GT2 by Jeff Koons, part of the Goodwood Revival display, is a testament to the continued creativity and innovation that the Art Car series embodies.
