Bill for weekly retirement lottery successfully cleared in House
The Thai government is set to launch a new retirement lottery, aiming to promote economic development and offer an additional savings option for senior citizens. The legislation, which has received support from most MPs, amends the National Savings Fund Act.
People aged 60 and above will be eligible to purchase tickets for 50 baht each. The retirement lottery will feature five first prizes of one million baht and 10,000 second prizes of 1,000 baht each. To prevent the rich from monopolizing the lottery, ticket purchases will be capped at 3,000 baht per month per person.
In a statement, Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul explained that if a person older than 60 who bought a ticket dies before receiving their money, their beneficiaries will inherit it. Moreover, at age 60, people will receive their spent money back plus returns from the National Savings Fund.
Winnings will be transferred to winners' PromptPay accounts, and money spent on lottery tickets by those who do not win will be automatically deposited into their savings accounts.
The retirement lottery is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year, with weekly draws taking place at 5pm on Fridays. The bill has been passed by the House and will now be sent to the Senate.
While no direct details about a similar retirement lottery bill were found in recent legislative summaries or relevant sources, it is worth noting that in 2025, New Hampshire had several bills related to retirement and lottery changes. However, these bills did not specify ticket prices or prize amounts for a retirement lottery.

Personal-finance management for senior citizens could potentially be improved with the Thai government's new retirement lottery, offering an additional savings option. To ensure wealth-management opportunities are accessible to all, a cap has been set on ticket purchases at 3,000 baht per month per person.
