Berlin's Rigaer Straße Bus Stops Get Barrier-Free Upgrade
This week, renovation work commences at two bus stops on the Park side of Rigaer Straße in Berlin's Ostseeviertel. The project aims to make the stops barrier-free and accessible for visually impaired individuals, marking the culmination of a broader renovation initiative.
The Department of Civil Engineering and Green Spaces has been actively transforming the city's bus infrastructure. Since 2022, they have rebuilt a total of 29 bus stops across Berlin. This year alone, 15 stops have been completed.
The upcoming renovation on Rigaer Straße will see the installation of paving stones with tactile grooves to assist visually impaired passengers in orientation. New kerbs will also be installed to facilitate boarding. To achieve barrier-free access, the entire area will be raised by approximately 20 meters. The street will be closed alternately during the work, which is expected to conclude by September 5.
The renovation of the two bus stops near the Montessori School on Rigaer Straße signifies the completion of this phase of the city's bus stop improvement project. The initiative aims to enhance accessibility and safety for all passengers, particularly those with visual impairments.
