Bergisch Gladbach Tops NRW Wealth List With €47,498 Per Taxpayer
New data reveals the wealthiest cities and municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Bergisch Gladbach topped the list in the Rhine-Weser region with an average income of €47,498 per taxpayer.
Meerbusch led all NRW cities with an impressive €62,570 per taxpayer. Following Meerbusch, Odenthal and Attendorn had average incomes of €56,256 and €55,046 respectively. Düsseldorf and Bonn trailed Bergisch Gladbach with €47,288 and €45,399.
Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, and Weeze had the lowest incomes, at €30,020, €29,668, and €28,225 respectively. In total, 65 cities in the Rhineland and 73 in Westphalia had incomes exceeding €40,000 per taxpayer.
The overall average income in NRW in 2015 was €38,560, a 3.2% increase from 2014. The Rhineland had a higher average at €39,510, compared to Westphalia's €37,417. Around 8.55 million taxpayers earned a total of €329.7 billion.
The data, based on 2015 wage and income tax statistics, shows significant variations in wealth across NRW. While Meerbusch leads, cities like Gelsenkirchen and Duisburg lag behind. The overall increase in average income indicates a growing economy, with the Rhineland outpacing Westphalia.
