Belarus Sets Apple Price, Introduces Market Stabilization Measures
The Belarusian government has set a new price for apples and introduced measures to stabilise their market. From November 15, apples will cost 4.8 Belarusian rubles (BYN) per kg. The state has also set maximum trade markups at 30% for retail prices.
The state order system plays a crucial role in this. Producers must sell a portion of their apples to the state, which then distributes them to retail networks. This ensures a consistent supply of apples across the country and helps prevent price fluctuations.
However, it's important to note that state orders are not a solution to the current apple shortage in Belarus. They serve as an insurance against disruptions and help maintain market presence, but they cannot increase the harvest or solve the scarcity issue. The lack of specific production data for the relevant year further underscores the challenge.
The state order system, along with the new price and markup regulations, aims to stabilise the apple market in Belarus. While these measures do not address the root cause of the shortage, they provide a temporary solution to ensure the availability of apples at controlled prices. Consumers should not expect a decrease in retail prices given the current conditions.
