Barry Gibson Inducted into the American Gaming Association (AGA) Gaming Hall of Fame

Barry Gibson, a veteran of the global gaming and retail industries, has been honoured with induction into the American Gaming Association (AGA) Gaming Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place on the 24th of September at the Myriad By Sana hotel.

Gibson, who has been a prominent figure in the industry since 1970, joins an esteemed list of industry luminaries, including David Berman, Charles Lombardo, and Ann Simmons Nicholson. These inductees have been recognized for shaping the gaming industry's growth, integrity, and leadership.

David Berman, co-head of Macquarie Capital, has led gaming mergers and acquisitions for over 30 years, with a total value exceeding $125 billion. Charles Lombardo, with over 50 years in the industry, is known for pioneering expertise particularly in slot machine operations and innovation. Ann Simmons Nicholson, CEO and founder of Simmons Group, specializes in human capital strategy, leadership development, organizational culture, and executive coaching.

Under Gibson's leadership, Entain restructured the board and expedited its exit from unregulated markets, reinforcing its pledge to operate solely in regulated markets. His strong commitment to safer gambling and player protection during his tenure at Entain was also noteworthy.

Gibson's induction into the Hall of Fame was described as a privilege by SBC's Managing Director, Andrew McCarron. The event was attended by 500 industry CEOs and C-level executives.

Prior to his role at Entain, Gibson served as Senior Independent Director and Remuneration Committee Chair at National Express from 2007 to 2014. He also held a similar role at William Hill from 2011 to 2019. Gibson's tenure at HomeServe from 2010 to 2019 saw the company's inclusion in the FTSE 100, a prestigious milestone that he later replicated with Entain.

Gibson's final formal appearance as Chair of the Entain Group coincided with his induction into the Hall of Fame. Stella David acted as Interim CEO before Gavin Isaacs' appointment, and later transitioned into her new role as Chair. Gibson announced his retirement in April 2024, with Isaacs appointed as his successor.

Gibson is a Freeman of the City of London, a Companion of the British Institute of Management, and Honorary Life President of the Retail Trust. His contributions to the gaming industry, spanning over five decades, have significantly influenced its business and financial structuring, shaping its economic landscape.

Gibson's extensive career in the gaming industry has not only seen him lead significant business expansion, but also advocate for sports betting regulation and safer gambling practices, such as his tenure at Entain. Moreover, Gibson's induction into the American Gaming Association (AGA) Gaming Hall of Fame, following his retirement in 2024, is likely to extend his influence in finance and casino businesses, including sports betting.
