Bank of America Welcomes Johnbull Okpara as New Chief Accounting Officer

In a significant move within the banking industry, Johnbull Okpara, the former chief accounting officer (CAO) of Citi, has been hired by Bank of America. The news was announced by Alastair Borthwick, the CFO of Bank of America, in a memo.

According to the Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Okpara's departure from Citi was announced. He will be joining Bank of America in December. Okpara's tenure at Morgan Stanley, where he spent four years, preceded his time at Citi. Before that, he spent nearly a decade at American Express and served as deputy controller at Capital One, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Rudolf Bless, who has been with Bank of America since 2014 and served as CAO and deputy CFO at Credit Suisse before joining the American bank, will aid in the transition. Bless' departure from Bank of America was not provided with a reason. During a transition period that will last into next year, Okpara and Bless will work together.

It is common for senior bankers and executives to move between major institutions like Citi and Bank of America over time, although specific names and timelines would require access to industry career-tracking databases or financial news reporting focused narrowly on executive appointments.

Last year, Andy Sieg, previously president of Bank of America subsidiary Merrill Lynch, was hired by Citi to serve as its wealth chief. For more specific recent examples of executives switching between Citi and Bank of America, it is recommended to consult specialized financial news sources like Bloomberg, Reuters, or the Wall Street Journal, company press releases, or professional networking sites like LinkedIn.

In his new role at Bank of America, Johnbull Okpara will be making significant contributions to the finance side of the business following his appointment as the new Chief Accounting Officer. His extensive experience, spanning from Morgan Stanley to American Express and Capital One, will undoubtedly play a key role in this new business venture.
