At Least Four Hammer Stores in MWP to Close, Leaving 66 Nationwide at Risk
At least four Meijer furniture stores in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are set to close, with clearance sales already underway in some branches. The parent company, Firmengruppe Brüder Schlau GmbH & Co. KG, filed for insolvency in June, leaving the future of additional branches uncertain.
The closures include the Meijer market on Wahrenberger Street in Wittenberge, which is expected to shut down by the end of the year. Four employees at this branch have received notice of closure. Nationwide, 66 out of approximately 180 Meijer specialty stores in Germany are reportedly closing, including branches in Frankfurt (Oder), Cottbus, Schwedt, and Wittenberge in Brandenburg. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, at least three other Meijer markets in Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz, and Waren are also facing closure.
Until August, employee wages were secured, and all markets were to remain open according to the insolvency administrator. However, the management of Firmengruppe Brüder Schlau GmbH & Co. KG has not confirmed these closure plans. The Neubrandenburg Knutzen market, also owned by the same parent company, is said to close.
The closures of these Meijer furniture stores will impact both employees and customers in the region. The exact number of affected branches remains uncertain, with the parent company yet to confirm the reports.
