Artesanos Camiseros Workers Strike Over Unpaid Salaries
Workers at Artesanos Camiseros factory in Manzanares have begun a strike, demanding payment of their salaries pending since August 2022. The strike comes six months after the company's bankruptcy filing and follows a failed mediation meeting last week.
The strike aims to pressure the company to fulfill a proposed payment plan. The factory, a majority shareholder of AB Design and Fashion, has not attended negotiations due to internal conflicts regarding the restructuring plan. This plan, created to boost international sales, involved opening new stores in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom. However, it also included an employment regulation file (ERE) to dismiss four of the 105 workers at the Manzanares factory.
The company's suspension of payments was declared in May 2023, leading to pre-bankruptcy proceedings. AB Design and Fashion was initially created to form a holding company of Spanish fashion firms, acquiring Javier Larrainzar, Elio Berhanyer, and Miguel Palacio.
The strike at Artesanos Camiseros factory highlights the ongoing issues faced by workers despite the company's insolvency filing six months ago. The company's failure to attend negotiations and fulfill payment plans has led to this action. The future of the workers and the company's restructuring plan remain uncertain.
