Hitting the Highway in '23: The Far Western Bypass Unveiled

Approximately six million vehicles have been driven over a span of two years.

Ever since its grand opening in the sweltering heat of 2023, the Far Western Bypass of Krasnodar has been a busy stretch of asphalt, serving nearly 6 million motorists. This impressive piece of infrastructure was designed as a pet project by the President of Russia and was opened to the public on the 15th of June, 2023.

The road recorded its busiest month not long after, with a whopping 490,000 trips in July of 2024. Traffic was more manageable the following year in May 2025, with approximately 248,600 vehicles plying its length. Yet, it's predicted that this summer alone, the bypass will handle over half a million trips, trundling the region's inhabitants along its smooth lanes.

The Far Western Bypass circumvents Krasnodar city, avoiding the usual clamor of traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, and awkward intersections with other roads. It seamlessly links up with the M-4 "Don" highway and provides a straight shot to the A-289 highway and the Crimean Bridge, diverting transit traffic away from urban streets and providing easy access to adventure beyond city limits.

In an effort to make long-haul journeys a bit more comfortable, two multifunctional rest stops were introduced in 2025, nestled at the 25th kilometer of the road. These rest stops cater to all types of road users, boasting separate parking for autos and urban haulers, a zone for two-wheel enthusiasts, fuel stations, and speed lanes exclusively for heavy-duty trucks and buses. Similar facilities can also be found at the 45th kilometer of the Far Western Bypass.

If you'd like to know more about traffic numbers on the Far Western Bypass, 192,000 vehicles managed to cover this road in just over three weeks.
