Prolight + Sound Honours Innovative Sound and Light Design in 2018

At the Prolight + Sound event in 2018, two prestigious awards were presented: the Sinus – International Sound Award and the Opus – International Light Design Award. These awards, presented in partnership, recognise outstanding achievements in the fields of sound and light design respectively.

Sinus – International Sound Award (2018)

The Sinus Award, an annual event since 2004, honours innovative use of AV media technology and system integration solutions. The categories for the 2018 awards included innovative sound installations in permanent venues, projects demonstrating outstanding acoustic solutions, sound concepts integrating architecture and technology, and use of sound in public spaces, museums, theaters, or event locations.

Entries for the Sinus Award must have been completed within the last two years prior to the award, and they are judged based on creativity in sound design and technology, acoustic quality, innovation, integration, and user experience. The awards are open to submissions from architects, sound designers, or companies specialising in sound technologies.

Opus – International Light Design Award (2018)

The Opus Award, granted since 2002, honours excellent work in the areas of light design, technical realization, stage and production design, and stage production. The categories for the 2018 awards included interior light design, exterior light design (facades, landscape), event light design (temporary installations for events, concerts, festivals), and innovative projects showcasing integration of lighting technology and design.

Projects for the Opus Award should have been completed within the last two years, with emphasis on creativity, technical innovation, and visual impact. The awards are open to permanent or temporary lighting projects. Works are judged on aesthetic effects, technical implementation, and overall design concept.

Both awards aim to promote and honour innovative and high-quality projects that blend technology and artistry in sound and lighting to enhance architectural and event experiences. The awards ceremony for both the Sinus and Opus Awards is scheduled for April 12 during Prolight + Sound.

Applications for the Sinus 2018 and Opus 2018 Awards can be submitted until November 12.
