Apollo assigns Brian Chu as head of the operational value generation platform APPS
In a significant move, Apollo Global Management, a leading asset management firm with over $785bn in assets under management as of March 31, 2025, has appointed Brian Chu as Partner and Head of Apollo Portfolio Performance Solutions (APPS). Chu, with over two decades of experience in operational leadership and private equity, is set to lead Apollo's value-creation model, which focuses on digital transformation, AI adoption, supply chain optimization, and commercial excellence.
Chu, who previously worked as Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Portfolio Operations at Centerbridge Partners, is tasked with scaling Apollo's value-creation model. He commented that Apollo has built one of the most effective operating platforms in the industry.
Apollo's value-creation model leverages a team of specialists and operating partners who work closely with portfolio company management through Value Creation Offices (VCOs) to ensure rigorous execution and accountability, driving sustained performance improvements and long-term value creation.
The firm applies disciplined investing and capability-building strategies, notably using proprietary AI systems to optimize procurement and operational efficiency across their portfolio companies. This AI-driven approach is foundational to reshaping how value is created, moving beyond traditional financial engineering to operational and technological advancements.
In his new role, Chu will oversee APPS' 35-member team of operating partners and functional specialists. Aaron Miller, who has been leading APPS since 2019, will become Chairman until his planned retirement at the end of 2026. Miller will continue to advise on strategy and support select high-impact projects after becoming Chairman.
Chu also highlighted Apollo's deep alignment with management and relentless focus on business transformation. He aims to scale this model further by accelerating growth through investments in technology, talent, and commercial excellence, ensuring portfolio companies realize their full potential and maintain a relentless focus on business transformation.
This appointment underscores Apollo's scale and operational reach across global private equity markets, and it is expected that Chu's leadership will further strengthen Apollo's position as a leader in value creation.
