Anticipating Ideal Taxation: Could a Major Business Tax Be Introduced?
The 'Welte Nord' industrial area, spanning over six football fields in the Middle Schussental, has been idle for some time. However, the city of Weingarten has been actively working towards its development, with a focus on a thoughtful and strategic approach.
In 2022, Japanese press manufacturer Aida withdrew from expansion plans for the 'Welte Nord' area. Since then, the city has been looking for suitable partners to fill the vacant space. One of the interested groups is 'Welte-Nord GmbH & Co. KG,' which has been in negotiations with the city.
The city's economic development department has been holding talks with a settlement management to bring interested businesses with suitable space requirements together. The approach prioritizes various medium-sized businesses from the region over waiting indefinitely for a dream eco-startup that would take up the entire area.
Mayor Clemens Moll emphasizes the importance of filling the 'Welte Nord' area thoughtfully rather than quickly. He believes that creating jobs and generating business tax revenue are the main objectives for the area. Car repair shops are explicitly considered as potential businesses for the 'Welte Nord' area, as they are considered less crisis-prone.
The CDU and SPD have agreed that the 'Welte Nord' area should not be divided and should be marketed well. Markus Brunnbauer, chairman of the CDU faction, supports this approach, while Maximilian Habisreutinger, a member of the Weingarten Free Voters (FWW), advocates for generating business tax revenue from the area as soon as possible.
The FWW opposes the idea of entrusting the 'Welte Nord' area to a real estate agent. Instead, they believe that the vision for the area should align with the ideas of interested parties. The city has been advertising the 'Welte Nord' industrial area on the state's land database since September 2023.
The main problem is the current economic situation, which has not significantly improved in recent years. According to Mayor Moll, the economy might be recovering slowly, but whether it will improve soon remains uncertain. Despite this, the city is committed to filling the 'Welte Nord' area in a way that benefits both the local economy and the community.
The 'Welte Nord' industrial area suffered less damage compared to the Martinshöfe construction project. This, combined with its strategic location, makes it an attractive prospect for businesses looking to invest in Weingarten. The city is looking forward to a bright future for the 'Welte Nord' area and the positive impact it will have on the local economy.
