Exclusive: Introducing the Bovensiepen Zagato, a Successor to Alpina

Set to roll off production lines in Buchloe from 2026 onwards under BMW's trademark ownership, the Alpina brand will not cease to exist. Instead, the Bovensiepen family has unveiled a new, ultra-exclusive creation – the Bovensiepen Zagato.

For years, Alpina enthusiasts have pondered the Bovensiepen family's next move after relinquishing the trademark rights to BMW. While Alpina Classic and their wine trading ventures can certainly keep them busy, there was a lingering void. That void has now been filled with the spectacular news: At the FuoriConcorso on Lake Como, the Bovensiepen family proudly revealed their latest project - the Bovensiepen Zagato. Accompanied by Andrea Zagato, head of the acclaimed Italian design studio, they revealed the new four-seater coupe.

In partnering with Zagato, the Bovensiepen family has made a strategic move. With a solid customer base built over decades by Alpina, starting a new brand can be challenging. Zagato's prestigious name promises to provide a significant boost, as evidenced by its subtle yet prominent placement in the side air intakes. In contrast, the Bovensiepen name is prominently displayed on the boot lid.

The visible BMW DNA in the vehicle belies its future significantly modified form. The exclusive grand tourer is not a mere Alpina rebranding; the Zagato signature is also distinctly present.

  • A Legendary Partnership

The characteristic "Double Bubble" roof, a hallmark of Zagato, is evident in the car's design. The front, however, presents a refreshing departure, with a new logo consisting of two Bs back-to-back, and absence of the BMW kidney grille. After all, this is not a BMW. The original BMW four-eye headlights seem narrower against this new backdrop, bestowing the vehicle with an entirely fresh look.

Production of the Bovensiepen Zagato requires around 250 hours of work. Although the Bovensiepen family has not announced the number of units to be produced, it is expected to be a low three-digit figure at most. Yet, the exact international markets for offering this exclusive vehicle remain to be tested.

  • Engine and Performance

Although no pricing details have been revealed, one can expect this exclusive affair to cost considerably more than previous Alpina products. The car's body, largely made of carbon, and world-famous Lavalina leather interior are clear indicators of the vehicle's premium nature. Under the hood lies an updated BMW M engine, designated S58, producing 611 horsepower and 700 Newton meters of torque. This powerful machine enables the lightweight carbon fiber GT, weighing under 1.9 tons, to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds. With a top speed of over 300 km/h, the Bovensiepen Zagato is poised to be a formidable vehicle.

From 2026, while Alpina's trademark rights belong to BMW, the spirit of Alpina, embodied in the Bovensiepen Zagato, lives on. As more information becomes available, ntv.de will keep you updated. In the meantime, activities in Buchloe remain intriguing.
