Fresh Take: Alstom Secures Massive Order for RER NG Trainsets
Additional RER NG trainsets to be provided by our company for the expansion of Île-de-France Mobilité's RER D line.
Hey there! Here's the scoop: Alstom, the global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has secured a significant order for 96 additional RER NG trainsets. These trainsets are destined for the RER D line, operated by SNCF Voyageurs, under a contract with Île-de-France Mobility.
This order, worth around €1.7 billion, comes after the approval of the financing agreement by the Île-de-France Mobility Board of Directors on April 10, 2025. This hefty chunk of change is entirely footed by Île-de-France Mobility.
This new order expands a framework agreement first signed in 2017 between SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom. Prior to this latest order, 166 RER NG trainsets had already been ordered, and this batch brings the total tally to 262. The RER NG trainsets come in two sizes: 130 trainsets of 112 meters length for the RER E line (in service since November 2023) and 132 trainsets of 130 meters length for the RER D line (in service since December 2024).
The RER NG trains are double-decker electric multiple units designed to amp up passenger comfort, increase capacity, and boost punctuality on the heavily used RER D and E commuter lines in the Île-de-France region. They are manufactured and assembled at Alstom’s Valenciennes and Crespin sites in Northern France.
With this latest order, Île-de-France Mobility can finish modernizing and expand the fleet on the RER D line, upgrading the quality of service on one of the region’s busiest routes. So, catch a ride on the RER D line—your journey is about to get even smarter and more comfortable!
That's all for now, folks! Keep it rolling with Alstom. Until next time!
