2023 Black Labour Inspections Uncover €20.1M Damage
In 2023, the Financial Control Black Work of the Main Customs Office Potsdam conducted inspections and detected significant damages related to black labour. The total damage sum uncovered reached 20,117,466 euros.
The inspections targeted the construction industry, hotels and restaurants, and the building cleaning industry due to their high risk of black work. In 2023, 595 employers and 6,162 individuals were inspected, resulting in 2,128 criminal proceedings and 568 administrative offence proceedings. This marked an increase of 542 criminal proceedings and a decrease of 176 administrative offence proceedings compared to the previous year.
The inspections led to warning fines, fines, and confiscation orders totalling 530,370 euros. Courts imposed fines of 377,741 euros and imprisonment of 24 months in concluded cases. The total damage sum uncovered included unpaid social security contributions, unpaid contributions to professional associations, improperly received social benefits, and wage discrepancies.
The Financial Control Black Work operates in several districts and cities, including Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel. In 2023, the detected damage sum exceeded 20 million euros, highlighting the importance of these inspections in combating black labour. The increase in criminal proceedings indicates a more severe approach to tackling the issue.
